I have my old power cord for laptop to my USB hard drive, and now does not work at all. Have I fried the circuit? Is it possible to get the data back if I want?
Thank you for any advice you can offer.

I could do is try to get another box and test the hard drive.
When it is completely discharged, you can get your data, but coz of data recovery is expensive, they must retrieve the data physically. It could cost about $ 300 - 1000 $.
The circuits could go on the disk. But the collection of data has not disappeared. You can back up your data, but is a great effort. Please send the drive to the manufacturer for data retrieval.
Unless the data is very important, I would be the target.
Did you include Geek Squad, if so, is it for them and see if they can solve this problem also happens with my USB 1 TB hard drive, obtain the data, but I am in the Mississippi River.
I hope it works
